Standing Alone

My little Sugar has been standing up all by herself without support this week. {Way to go, big girl!}

In a letter HH recently wrote to DD {for her baby book} he noted that even at 9 months old she has a bit of an independent streak that he can't help but notice and admire.

I pray that she will one day use that independent nature to stand firm in her faith in God. That she will not cave to the pressures of this world. And, though she may feel like she is standing alone at times, that she can take comfort in knowing that she is always standing in the presence of her loving Savior.

For some reason the new feat of "standing" makes me think of the hymn The Solid Rock.

I love the truth spoken in this hymn of grace. Nothing in this hymn ever hints that any work on our part can add to Christ’s work in order to secure our eternal salvation. And, it reminds us that even in our darkest times God has not left us...Even in our darkest times we can take comfort as we "rest on His unchanging grace."

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Refrain:
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
